HISTORY

The history of CODie software products e.K

CODie software products e.K. (formerly Computer Services) was founded by computer scientist Andreas Bargfried and incorporated on 1st March 1990.

CODie initially covered several areas of computing, including creating bespoke hardware to meet specific customer requirements and designing unique Unix and Novell network projects. The area of operations concerned the development of applications software. Since 1991, CODie has also been deeply involved in the development of office management systems for the various Microsoft Windows operating.

Creating the definitive finance center systems

At the end of 1991, CODie was commissioned by insurance brokers to create a specialist office management system. This was to include integrated corporate, divisions, agency and contract management facilities. It also needed to be able to model and calculate any possible or desired commission structure.

This project formed the basis of what has today become the SmartPROVIS and CODieBOARD finance centre systems, which are now in use across the German speaking world. In the years that followed, new and complimentary software systems were developed, including:

  • SmartProject - billing and project management software
  • MCS Maintenance Control System - a specialist maintenance control module for cruise liners
  • CODie ISMAN - shipping management system and PMS
  • CODie ISMAN Modul Tiquam - an administration module for ISM / ISO documents
  • CODie ISMAN Modul ShipShop - a purchasing module that automatically integrates orders into a shipping company’s database
  • CODieBOARD#supervision-center - contains Claims, Damages and New Building  based on MS DOTNET
  • CODieBOARD#finance-center - a new businesses solution for insurance software, based on MS DOTNET
What characterised all these software solutions, and what remains their defining feature today, is that CODie systems are always developed in line with the customers’ needs and experiences. This ensures the constant evolution of CODie products and also guarantees their ability to effectively respond to prevailing market conditions.

The birth of the MCS system (Maintenance Control System)

As a result of another external research and development commission, CODie launched the MCS system at the end of 1995. This system is concerned with monitoring and predicting the flow of maintenance work onboard ships. The development of this system was implemented in close cooperation with several German shipping lines.

To achieve the desired outcomes, it was necessary to be able to define a ship’s structure and outfitting as well as to perform data entry and training of technical personnel, directly on board container ships and bulk carriers.

CODie launches ISMAN

In 1998, in collaboration with Hamburg-based shipping company Peter Döhle Shipping KG, CODie developed the unique CODie ISMAN (Integrated Ship MANagement) software system. This advanced solution enables ship owners to achieve a real-time overview of their current costs and work completed on any of their ships, and to document and check all necessary ISO 9000 requirements, using the CODie ISMAN TIQUAM module.

In addition, the CODie ISMAN ShipShop module allows ship owners to manage their ordering and purchasing processes in real time, using a satellite link between the ship herself and the shipping line’s offices. The CODie ISMAN system is widely in use on the high seas, having already been commissioned on over 220 container ships of several shipping lines.

Legal status

In September 1999, the company formally changed its name to CODie Software Products eK, which was recorded in the business register in Potsdam, Germany. CODie’s software systems have been and will continue to be sold partially under the brand names of other distributors and retailers.
